Prop firm rules compared: drawdown, consistency and payouts across six futures firms
Every figure below is read from the same rulebook the Wolf Tracker risk engine computes with, so this page and the product cannot disagree. Firms change their rules without notice · always confirm against the firm's own documentation before trading.
Six firms, six different ways to fail. The rule that ends most accounts is not the profit target · it is how the trailing drawdown behaves and where it stops. This page sets out the differences that actually decide outcomes.
The comparison
Why the floor-lock rule matters more than the target
Take a $50,000 account to a peak of $5,000 in profit, then give $4,000 back. At Take Profit Trader and Topstep the floor locked at your starting balance and the account survives with room to spare. At Apex Trader Funding, MyFundedFutures and Lucid Trading it locks just above that, at the starting balance plus $100, for effectively the same outcome. At Tradeify the floor follows the peak upward through the evaluation and never stops, so that account is gone.
Identical trades. Identical skill. Three different results, decided entirely by a rule most traders never read.
Frequently asked questions
Which prop firms use a trailing drawdown that follows unrealised profit?
Of the six firms compared here, Apex Trader Funding uses an intraday trailing drawdown during the evaluation, meaning the floor rises with every new equity high including profit you have not yet banked. The others trail at the end of each day, so an unrealised spike during the session does not move the floor.
Which prop firm has no consistency rule?
Apex Trader Funding apply no consistency rule during the evaluation. This matters for traders whose profit arrives in a small number of large days, because a consistency rule raises the profit target until the remaining days catch up.
What does it mean when a trailing drawdown does not lock?
Most firms stop the trailing floor once it reaches your starting balance, so profit above that point is genuinely yours. Tradeify does not during the evaluation: the floor keeps rising with every new equity high. A trader who reaches a peak and gives part of it back can breach an evaluation that never closed a losing day.
How many trading days do prop firm evaluations require?
Take Profit Trader: 3 days. Apex Trader Funding: 1 day. Topstep: 2 days. Tradeify: 3 days. MyFundedFutures: 2 days. Lucid Trading: 1 day.
Do prop firms impose a daily loss limit?
Topstep and Lucid Trading apply a daily loss limit, which varies by account size and pauses the day rather than failing the account outright. The remaining firms compared here impose none, which means the only daily limit is the one you set yourself.
Per-firm account sizes and targets
Take Profit Trader
Take Profit Trader · verified against TPT's help centre and checkout, 18 August 2026. No daily loss limit on Test or PRO · the 25K's $500 limit is shown as removed. Test drawdown is EOD trailing, PRO is INTRADAY — same dollar amount, both locking at the starting balance. Consistency is Test-only at 50% and it EXTENDS the goal rather than failing you, which is why evaluations here often run long. Minimum 3 trading days — cut from 5 on 15 August 2026 as a permanent program change; tests purchased before 3:00 AM ET that day, and resets of them, keep the 5-day minimum. News allowed in Test, restricted in PRO. Commissions $5.00 / $0.50 per round turn. ⚠ MONTHLY SUBSCRIPTION at $150 / $170 / $245 / $330 / $360 by size until you pass, breach or cancel — a recurring cost, not a one-time fee, so a slow evaluation costs a multiple of the headline price. Activation is $130 flat at every size, but the credit included with the evaluation purchase covers it, so the normal net cost is $0. ⚠ Buy the evaluation with points or rewards and no credit is issued — the $130 is then genuinely payable and must be added to the account's costs by hand. Unlimited Tests, max 5 PRO, 3 PRO resets. Withdrawals over $250 are free; $250 or under carries a $50 fee. PRO+ is 90/10, invite only, no buffer, no resets. Apex Trader Funding
Apex 4.0 · Intraday Trail · verified against Apex's help centre and storefront, 10 August 2026. The floor trails your PEAK equity including unrealised P&L and stops moving once it reaches your starting balance plus $100. No daily loss limit in the evaluation; the funded account does have one, and it widens with your scaling tier ($500–$1,250 at 25K, $1,000–$3,000 at 50K, $1,750–$3,500 at 100K, $2,500–$4,000 at 150K · at the top tier on a 150K the limit equals the whole drawdown, so it protects you least when you have most to lose). One-step evaluation, 30-day window, one-time fee, NO resets. One minimum day and no consistency rule in the evaluation; the funded account carries 50%. Funded contracts start near half the evaluation cap and scale on the previous session's closing balance, topping out at 2/4/6/10 minis. Evaluation price with Apex's standing coupon (a flat 90% off list): $16.70 / $24.90 / $39.90 / $59.90 by size; PA activation $69 / $79 / $99 / $129, which coupons do not reduce. Flat 100% payout split — the '100% of the first $25,000 then 90/10' figure in most reviews is the retired legacy rulebook. The real ceiling is the six-payout limit and the per-payout caps, after which the account closes, so treat a funded account as a depleting asset. A payout needs 5 qualifying profit days and no single day at or above 50% of the cycle's profit. Max 20 accounts. The 75K, 250K and 300K sizes were retired in the 4.0 update; a legacy 100K Static account (fixed $625 drawdown that never trails, $2,000 target, 2 minis) still trades for existing holders but is not part of the current line-up and must not be sized with the scaling ladder above. Topstep
Topstep · verified against Topstep's own help centre and checkout, 10 August 2026. The Maximum Loss Limit is the one hard rule · EOD trailing, rising with your end-of-day balance and locking permanently once it reaches your starting balance. ⚠ It is enforced on UNREALISED P&L: an open loss touching it liquidates you immediately, whatever the balance closes at. Minimum 2 trading days. The Daily Loss Limit ($1K / $2K / $3K by size) is OPTIONAL and fixed at checkout — triggering it is not a violation, just a forced break until the next session, and it carries into the funded account. Consistency target 50%: a big day raises your profit target rather than failing you. Monthly subscription $49 / $99 / $199 until you pass, breach or cancel; resets cost the same as one month. Express Funded activation $149 on the standard path. A NO-ACTIVATION-FEE Combine exists at $95 / $149 / $229 per month — dearer monthly, nothing on passing. Back2Funded reactivation $599 / $699 / $829 within 30 days of closure. Adding a daily loss limit takes $10 / $20 / $30 off the monthly price on the no-activation path, and $50 off a reactivation. ⚠ FUNDED: the XFA balance starts at $0 — the size label is buying power, not balance — and after your first payout the MLL is set to $0. A payout needs 3 trading days with a trade on each; at activation you pick the Standard or Consistency payout path, the latter adding a 40% cap on your largest single day. 90/10 split, max 5 XFA. Verify at topstep.com.
Tradeify
Tradeify · modelled on the SELECT evaluation · verified against Tradeify's help centre, 10 August 2026. EOD trailing drawdown, NO daily loss limit in the evaluation, 40% consistency rule (evaluation only · removed once funded), minimum 3 trading days. ⚠ The one that catches people: during the EVALUATION Tradeify's trailing drawdown does NOT lock the way TPT, Apex Intraday and Topstep do · every new equity high raises the floor permanently, so an evaluation account can breach after a long winning run. Once FUNDED the floor does lock, at your starting balance plus $100. Microscalping rule: more than 50% of your trades must be held longer than 10 seconds AND more than 50% of your profit must come from those trades — both, or payouts are blocked. Flat by 4:45 PM ET, and 12:59 PM on holiday half-days. GROWTH differs: no consistency rule, a 1-day pass, a soft-breach daily loss limit of $600 / $1,250 / $2,500 / $3,750 by size, wider drawdowns at the two larger sizes ($3,500 and $5,000), and a 35% consistency rule once funded. LIGHTNING is instantly funded with no evaluation: drawdowns of $1,000 / $2,000 / $4,000 / $5,250, a soft daily loss limit of none / $1,250 / $2,500 / $3,000, one mini on the 25K, no minimum days, a progressive consistency rule of 20% then 25% then 30% that resets at each payout, a payout fixed at $1,000 on the 25K, and no resets — a failed Lightning account must be repurchased. Pricing is one-time with no activation fee: Growth $99 / $145 / $255 / $369, Select $109 / $165 / $265 / $369, Lightning $345 / $492 / $660 / $796, with a standing 40% code bringing Lightning to $207 / $295 / $396 / $478. MyFundedFutures
MyFundedFutures · modelled on RAPID, the only plan sold in all four sizes · verified 10 August 2026. ⚠ FLEX WAS DISCONTINUED on 5 August 2026; the current line-up is Builder, Rapid, Rapid EOD (limited time) and Pro. EOD trailing drawdown in the evaluation, locking at your starting balance plus $100, no daily loss limit except on Builder 50K, 50% consistency in the Rapid and Pro evaluations (it never fails you · it adds trading days), minimum 2 days. No activation fee. Builder, Rapid and Pro bill MONTHLY until you pass or cancel; Rapid EOD is a one-time fee. ⚠ Rapid's FUNDED stage switches to an INTRADAY trail that follows unrealised profit — the only account in this registry that changes drawdown type between stages, and the reason Rapid EOD exists. BUILDER: 25K and 50K only, 1-day pass, no evaluation consistency (50% applies at payout instead), 2 and 4 minis, a $1,000 soft daily loss limit at 50K, 80/20, payouts every 48 hours capped at $2,000. RAPID EOD: 50K only, keeps the EOD trail throughout, but 4 minimum days and a 30% consistency rule — the tightest in this registry — and 3 minis. PRO: 50K and up, EOD trail once funded, 80/20, 14-day payout cycle, minimum payout $1,000, buffer of drawdown plus $100, and the only plan whose contract cap RISES on passing — 3 minis to 5 at 50K, 6 to 10 at 100K, 9 to 15 at 150K. News: Tier 1 releases are barred on Rapid and Pro SIM FUNDED accounts only, and are permitted throughout every evaluation. Prices with the standing discount: Builder $53 / $63, Rapid $55 / $79 / $134 / $174, Pro $114 / $172 / $239, Rapid EOD $126 one-time. Verify at myfundedfutures.com.
Lucid Trading
Lucid Trading · modelled on LucidFlex · verified against Lucid's own checkout, 10 August 2026. End-of-day drawdown, 50% consistency during the evaluation only · waived once funded, and the floor stops trailing at your starting balance plus $100. Contract caps are minis · 2/4/6/10 by size, ten times that in micros. ⚠ THE DAILY LOSS LIMIT IS A PAID OPTION, not an absence: it is ON by default at $600 / $1,200 / $1,800 / $2,700 by size on Flex, Pro and Daily, and switching it OFF at checkout makes the account cost MORE — at 25K about $50 becomes $65, at 150K about $250 becomes $300. Activation is free on every evaluation, and each carries a reset fee close to the purchase price. A payout needs five profitable days at or above the daily minimum for your size, capped at 50% of profit · five payouts, then live. Other plans differ: PRO has NO consistency rule in the evaluation (the only Lucid evaluation passable on one strong day) but 40% once funded; DAILY lets you choose EOD or intraday drawdown at checkout, fixed for the life of the evaluation, and pays out daily; DIRECT starts funded with a 20% consistency check, wider loss limits at the two larger sizes ($3,500 and $5,000), no daily loss limit at 25K, 5 minimum days to a payout and a one-time price of $230 / $361 / $490 / $585. MAXX is invitation only. Flat by 4:45 PM ET. Verify at lucidtrading.com
